Back in 2019, we were frustrated. We’d watch friends and younger family members make expensive financial mistakes — not because they were careless, but because they’d never been taught the fundamentals. One person maxed out a credit card not understanding how interest worked. Another was saving but had no real plan for what they were saving toward. A third knew they should budget but found every template online too rigid or complicated.

We started with small workshops in Sha Tin. Twenty people in a coffee shop, talking through real money situations. The response was overwhelming. People wanted this. They weren’t looking for get-rich-quick schemes or complex investment strategies. They wanted to understand the basics, build confidence, and take control of their financial lives.

Over the past few years, we’ve taught hundreds of young adults across Sha Tin. We’ve refined what works based on real feedback. We’ve discovered which explanations actually click. We’ve learned what questions come up most often and built our courses to address them directly. We’re not done learning, and we don’t think we ever will be.

Today, SmartSpend Academy Limited offers courses on budgeting, credit management, smart spending habits, and building financial confidence. We work with individuals, groups, and organizations. But our core mission hasn’t changed: help young adults take control of their money so they can focus on building the life they actually want.
